Love it or hate it, this oddly interesting flower of Japanese Hepatica is a very rare form. This form can be passed on to some of its offspring, and some breeders have been trying to make semi- and full double forms. It is a very difficult undertaking, however.
I also have been using this Hepatica to make semi-double and double flowers. The interesting thing is that if I self-pollinate this Hepatica, some of the seedlings have regular flowers with very beautiful shades and patterns of lavender.
